Development of versatile spatially-resolved ARPES system at NanoTerasu

Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) is renowned for its powerful capability to probe the electronic structures of quantum materials, including high-temperature superconductors, topological insulators, and low-dimensional materials [1]. In NanoTerasu, a new 3-GeV high-brilliance synchrotron radiation facility located in Tohoku, Japan, we have developed beamline 06U [2] dedicated to micro- and nano-focused angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (micro-ARPES and nano-ARPES). In this presentation, we introduce detailed specifications and the current status of the versatile high-resolution micro-ARPES system, which has already been open to general users since March 2025 [3]. This system is specifically focusing on the integration of multiple experimental degrees of freedom, such as wide photon energy (50 eV - 1 keV), tunable light polarizations (left- and right-hand circular as well as linear horizontal and vertical), 3D spin vector detection using two VLEED-type spin detectors, and in situ application of various external fields for operando measurements. We also present representative ARPES data to demonstrate the outstanding performance and quality of both the beamline and the micro-ARPES system.
