From National to European Research Infrastructures: SOLARIS Synchrotron, LEAPS and the Future of Scientific Collaboration

Large-scale research infrastructures play an increasingly important role in advancing frontier science, developing high-tech solutions, and addressing major societal and industrial challenges. This seminar will present recent developments at the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS in Poland, highlighting its expanding scientific capabilities, technological innovations, and growing engagement with interdisciplinary user communities.
Building on the SOLARIS experience, the presentation will explore how national research infrastructures can strengthen their scientific impact through European collaboration, particularly within the League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources (LEAPS). Special attention will be given to joint technology development, engagement with emerging scientific and industrial communities, and the creation of ambitious research programmes that extend beyond the capabilities of individual facilities.
The seminar will also provide a broader perspective on the evolving European research infrastructure landscape, highlighting strategic priorities and emerging opportunities under the forthcoming EU Framework Programme FP10. Particular attention will be given to international cooperation, including new opportunities arising from Korea's association with Horizon Europe. Building on the complementary strengths of European and Korean research infrastructures, the presentation will explore perspectives for joint technological developments, interdisciplinary scientific programmes, and stronger engagement of international user communities.
