A trapped ion qubit is one of the leading quantum computing platforms and has number of promising features including long coherence time exceeding an hour, low state preparation and measurement error, high gate fidelity and all-to-all qubit connectivity. Trapped ion quantum computer highly relies on the various optical system surrounding atomic qubits and building a stable and reliable optical system is crucial for operating and maintaining the trapped ion quantum computer. In this talk, I will deliver the engineering effort to build a stable and reliable optical system for trapped ion quantum computer in Duke University. The whole system is carefully designed by computer-aided design (CAD) tool and modularized to improve stability and to ease system maintenance. High power UV light is delivered through hydrogen-treated photonic-crystal fiber which can bear hundreds of mWs over a day. The latest achievement in realizing practical trapped quantum computer will be presented as well.
